Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour
The Mollie Kathleen Mine has been conducting tours since the 1890’s. Witness the operation of numerous pieces of air powered gold mining equipment from drifter drills, tuggers, slushers, stopper drills, jack leg drills, rocker shovel mucking machines and even an early 1900’s air powered steam hoist.

Ride aboard the last air powered Tram-Air Locomotive manufactured in Cripple Creek, Colorado, traveling the same century old mine rail that miners rode.

See samples from Bob Womack’s Gold King Mine of 1890 and the famous C.O.D. Mine that resulted in the massive spontaneous wealth of Charles Tutt and Spencer Penrose.

Pikes Peak Heritage Center at Cripple Creek
In the late 1800s, thousands of fortune-seekers made their way to Pikes Peak. Gold had been discovered, and that discovery started the country’s last great gold rush.

Now, more than a century later, visitors to the region can make their own discoveries at the newest member of Pikes Peak Country Attractions Association, the Pikes Peak Heritage Center at Cripple Creek. This new state-of-the-art interpretive center that overlooks the town of Cripple Creek.

Visitors to the Pikes Peak Heritage Center can learn about gold mining yesterday and today, geologic and human history, view displays that showcase the unique mountain environment, and learn about regional recreational activities and attractions.

This 11,600-square-foot facility is built in a style that is reminiscent of historic Cripple Creek and features interactive displays that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the past glory days of this world-famous gold mining camp, when it was a rambunctious community of miners, ministers and madams. Other displays will showcase captivating historic photography, flora and fauna, the area’s world-class dinosaur discoveries and Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain.

Take a drive around The Golden Loop Historical Parkway and discover the real mining history of Victor & Cripple Creek. The 1890’s gold rush made this area one of the most famous mining districts in the world. Thousands flocked to the area in search of golden wealth - leaving behind the mines and towns that still dot the landscape near Victor and Cripple Creek. This driving tour is designed to help you better understand the history of the gold rush as well as the present day mining operations. The tour, courtesy of the Southern Teller County Focus Group, is one of many ways to learn about the rich history in the mining district.

To find our trails, take U.S. Hwy 24 west from Colorado Springs; in Divide turn south on Hwy 67; turn left at the sign to Victor on Teller County Rd. 81.

Cripple Creek and Victor are active mining districts, so we ask that you please stay on public roads and trails.



The Butte Theater
Theater is a part of the rich heritage of Cripple Creek. Year-round entertainment here includes a classic form of theater that was an integral part of the Old West. The beautifully refurbished Butte Theatre features a melodrama, many plays, musicals and comedies. The “Butte Concert and Beer Hall” goes back to 1896, when nightly entertainment included the Ladies' Vienna Orchestra. A restoration project in 1999 now provides a 1,350-square foot stage which spans the main room, with seating for 174 guests.

Cripple Creek Ghost Walk
Take a fascinating one and a half hour walking tour through the haunted and historic streets of Cripple Creek Colorado. Learn about the Wild West, the spirits that just can’t leave, and the places they like to stay.

Colorado Hiking Trails Near Victor, Colorado
This series of interpretive sites and trails is a project of the Southern Teller County Focus Group and is made possible with funding from the Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining Company, and from a State Historical Fund Grant from the Colorado Historical Society.

While enjoying these trails, please respect the property and the remnants of our mining heritage. For your safety, please stay on the trails.

Trails offer beginner to intermediate slopes. Maps are available at all trailheads:

NOTE: Sturdy hiking shoes & clothing appropriate for mountain weather are necessary gear for these backcountry trails. Sites at the Theresa, Vindicator, Independence & Gold Coin Mines are handicap accessible.




Cripple Creek And Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad
Take a rail into the past and explore the history and scenic beauty of Colorado’s mining district. The Cripple Creek District Museum
Don’t miss the Cripple Creek District Museum for a glimpse into the hearty past of Cripple Creek. Traverse three buildings packed with artifacts, historic relics, and Gold Rush memorabilia. Open year-round, the museum offers a little something for the history buff in all of us.

Founded as a non-profit foundation in 1953 by Richard Johnson and Blevins Davis, the Museum has enjoyed half a decade as the premiere conservator of history in Teller County and the Cripple Creek District. The original museum is still housed in the 1895 Midland Terminal Railroad Depot, which serviced the District from 1896 to 1949.

Horse Back Rides

Take advantage of the great outdoors by enjoying a day of fly fishing in our cool, clear rivers. Listed below are a few options to help you coordinate your activities:

Penrose-Rosemont Reservoir Fishing Site
Elevation: 9,675 Feet (3015.9 Meters)
Trailhead located off of Gold Camp Road (FDR 370), just 5 miles from Old Stage Road (FDR 368). This trail to the reservoir is less than half a mile one way and open to
fishermen only. You must have a fishing license and rod to use the trail. The
lake is 83 acres and used for drinking water in Colorado Springs, therefore
many special rules apply to this site. Department of Wildlife employees and a
resident caretaker patrol the lake’s shores regularly.
